Environmental Awareness

Maldivian Virgin Coconut Oil
As part of its core philosophy of assisting in the development and diversification of local communities, Per Aquum has set up a small, sustainable business to produce virgin coconut oil, salt scrubs and wooden massage tools. The usiness employs fifteen people from the local community, including a number of women who were previously unemployed. Maldivians have been using virgin coconut oil for centuries, as it offers high levels of hydration and nourishment and has anti-aging, antiseptic and ealing properties. The coconut oil is used in many of the treatments at both Lime and Aquum Spas in the Maldives, and guests can purchase the oil after their massage, enabling them to savour the smell and luxurious feel of the oil even at home.

Coral Rehabilitation Project
In 2006 Per Aquum launched a project to protect and develop the reef at its underwater spa at Huvafen Fushi. We engaged two marine biologists to assist with this project and have successfully enhanced the local ecosystem around the underwater spa with a coral nursery and coral reef rehabilitation project. We now have a resident marine biologist to assist in the project and to offer information to guests through guided snorkelling and interactive tours, so they can take back with them an awareness of how wonderful yet fragile the environment is. Working closely with the marine biologist is the resident ‘Green Team’, consisting of key members of Huvafen Fushi who assist in the protection and preservation of our treasured natural surroundings.

Spa Training for staff

An effective and supportive learning program is delivered which increases skills, knowledge and professionalism in our spa teams. This consists of a three tier training program offered within the spa which has been embraced wholeheartedly by each of our international and local Managers, Therapists, Wellness and Specialist Mentors, Spa Hosts and Fitness team.

Located in North Male Atoll in the Maldives.  A 30 minute luxury speedboat ride from Male International Airport.  Alternatively, a chartered seaplane transfer of 15 minute can be arranged.
